The episode starts in the trost district. We see Hitch after a very long time. She, with other survey corps members, is rescuing the civilians trapped under the debris of the walls. An elderly woman who is badly injured was pulled out by Hitch. She murmurs that Eren destroyed her house.
Close by, some people are quarreling. They are arguing about whether what Eren did is right or wrong and are the lost lives of the citizens really worth it? Most people call the sacrifices as noble and for the revival of the eldian empire.
After seeing the condition, Hitch is fairly certain that at any moment riots can spring up. So she orders everyone to equip themselves with the riot gear.
She enters the building. Hitch sees footsteps soaked in water from the basement. She follows those steps to a room. She opens the door and steps in and instantly a hand smothered her. We see Annie's hand over Hitch's mouth. But she is weakened and is easily handled by Hitch.
Hitch tries to subdue her and called for help when she notices that Annie has cut herself and can transform into a Titan at any moment. Hence Hitch agrees to listen to her. She then prepares a horse for Annie as she said she will leave the island. Hitch is shocked to hear that Annie was conscious all the while she was frozen. Annie asks Hitch whether Eren was serious about destroying the entire world?
They ride their way out of the district. Seeing that all the wall Titans are released, Annie is in awe. Afterwards when Hitch asks her about how she feels passing by the corpses Titans create in their wake, she starts narrating her story. She says that she never cared about anyone. She was left alone by her parents. An eldian guy from a camp picked her up and trained her so that she can be a warrior and earn him a better living. He taught her everything he knew. One day Annie grew stronger than him and beat him badly. He was hurt so bad that he can't walk ever. But he rejoiced because Annie was ready. She started believing life has no value whatsoever until one moment in her life.
One morning, Annie's father kneeled and apologised to Annie, because he was wrong about everything. He cried and pleaded to her to revoke their honorary marleyan status and come back as she was. At that moment she accepted him as her father. Pretty dark but also emotional at the same time. Hitch says, even if she manages to return to her father she will find nothing but corpses and rubble. Annie agrees.
Next we skip to an eldian internment camp, where people are trying to alert the marleyans about what they saw. The marleyan soldiers point their rifles towards the crowd. Mr. Leonhart remembers a promise he took from Annie that she will return, after which he tries to attack the soldier, the screen goes dark after we hear a gunshot.
In the next scene we see Instructor Sades, who is injured. He is informed by his subordinates about yeagerists who have taken control of the fort. Sades orders the soldiers to plant them within the ranks of the enemies and rise up when they are ready until then they must not loose sight of who they are really.
Mikasa and Armin are having a conversation as Armin prepares to leave for Ragako. Mikasa asks how Armin will handle the situation to which he answers that he will try to persuade Connie to not feed Falco to his mother. He says if it's necessary he will even fight against Connie. Armin is thinking in the right direction as he says , Falco is the only way to persuade Reiner and Pieck, or else Paradis will endure another 2 millenium of war. Mikasa asks what she should do? To which Armin replies that she should help Jean. When she asks about Eren, Armin gets angry and lashes out on Mikasa. He infact is so preoccupied with so many things that he is loosing his cool. And in this he hurts Mikasa's feelings.
Mikasa apologises to Armin to which Armin replies if Erwin Smith would have been alive today he wouldn't have snapped at Mikasa like he did. He said in the end that the answer is clear, Erwin should have inherited the Colossal Titan, Erwin should have been saved. Gabi is preparing to leave with Armin. She talks to Sasha's family and Kaya and then they set out for Ragako.
The scene changes and we are back at the fort. Floch shoots a volunteer. All of the volunteers are under arrest. He kills the volunteer after a few minutes long speech about how he knew the plan beforehand. He asks the volunteers to submit to the eldian cause instead of dying for pride. Mikasa comes in and asks Floch about Hange and Levi. To which he answers, that Zeke killed them.
Falco is awake and Connie successfully makes him believe that he has amnesia and that he is taking him to a nearby hospital for treatment. Falco is thinking about a way to get south somehow and join his friends whereas Connie is thinking about his mother only.
Pieck and General Magath are in hiding. They see Marleyan airships returning. They expect them to reach Marley before the Titans do. And suddenly they meet Hange. And guess who is with her? LEVI !!!! GET READY FOR SOME LEVI ACTION BOISSSS!!!!!!
